Takeshi Nakajima 中島　武
Japanese Textile Brush-Dyeing　引き染め　

Takeshi Nakajima is trained in traditional Kyoto style hand-dyeing craft where he dyes fabric with brushes, is widely recognized for recontextualizing Hikizome into a vibrant, contemporary textile language.

His free-form technique exudes a beauty that can only be expressed by hand dyeing, such as the bleeding that changes with temperature and humidity and the shading created by hand. With his unique style of calligraphic-like expressive & dynamic brush strokes, his yukata design takes on  modern silhouettes. aesthetics. Besides yukatas, and norens, he expands his repertoire of creations to beyond just fabric, gaining him numerous domestic & international collaborations with other craftsmen and foreign designers.  In 2026, his works can be in KIX lounge Kansai, Capella Hotel Kyoto, art museum located at Pohang Korea. He is also teaching hand-dyeing craft in Kyoto University of The Arts.
伝統的な京都の「引き染め」技法を修め、刷毛を用いて生地を染め上げる中島武は、その技術を鮮やかで現代的なテキスタイルの表現言語へと再解釈するアーティストとして広く認知されています。
気温や湿度によって表情を変えるにじみ、人の手が生み出す繊細な濃淡など、中島さんの自由な表現方法には手染めでしか描き出せない美しさが宿っています。まるで書芸を思わせる表現力豊かでダイナミックな刷毛のストロークという独自のスタイルにより、手がける浴衣は現代的なシルエットと美意識をまといます。その創作活動は浴衣や暖簾といった布製品の枠を大きく超え、多種多様な表現へと広がりを見せており、国内外の職人や海外のデザイナーとのコラボレーションも数多く実現してきました。2026年現在、その作品は関西国際空港（KIX）のラウンジ、カペラホテル京都、さらには韓国・浦項（ポハン）の美術館などにも導入されています。また、現在は京都芸術大学にて手染め工芸の指導にもあたり、次世代へとその技術を伝えています。
