The shape is inspired by wooden fishing boats that once lined up along the many alcove of Kyoto coastlines. Its also known as the “soup drinking bowl” as a gentle spout-like “kataguchi” is hand-shaped to allow one to drink soup while holding the bowl in both hands.
The Kyo-iro coloured clay series (Kyoto colour series ) feature a matte and natural raw aesthetics to the tableware.
The deep shade of midnight blue (blended in-house) reflects the gradating hues of the mountain range surrounding Kyoto at dusk, changing to a much sombre blue as the sun sets. Thus, the name Yuu Kyozan Blue - Yuu (evening) Kyozan (Kyoto mountain).
