Etsuji Noguchi
approx. Dia 25cm x H 2cm
Verdigris Green
His signature oxidised copper-like green pigment and texture is achieved by not firing only once or twice, but at least 4 times in the kiln over below average temperatures and shorter durations. During the firing process, ash is introduced several times to achieve the desired depth of the green pigment. Etsuji san does not have a textbook firing method for determining when is best to stop but he continues the process until his pursuit of desired outcome for each expression is obtained.
Refined yet brutalist feel, simple yet multi-faceted monochrome colour.
Etsuji Noguchi is a modern ceramic artist based in Kagoshima. He was first captivated by Yakishime from Tanegashima in South Islands of Kagoshima. He was
trained under Takashi Nakazato, a renowned ceramic master in Karatsu where he learned mastered not only his pottery craft, but also firewood kiln construction. This knowledge led him to Italy, Denmark, and Northern Arizona as guest potter and built firewood kilns.
