大山求は、鉄に宿る自然な美しさ「幽玄」を表現した作品を数多く生み出している。また、彼の作品には、時間の経過、静寂、老いに対する思いなどが表現されている。
Motomu Oyama crafts iron works that encapsulates the essence of Yugen, a lantent beauty that is suggestive to evoke our senses overtime as we connect deeper with his works. One can appreciate the expression of time passage, stillness and empathy towards the aging in his works.

土という、誰の足元にもありながら、熱を加えるだけで何100年と形を残す。この素材の持つ力に魅力を感じ、陶芸家を志しました。 手あとを大切に、作り手の思いや土の表情のようなものが、読み取れる、余白のある作品。 自分の作品が、誰かにとっての大切な何かになれるよう願っています。

Even though the soil is everywhere under our feet, it can last in any shape for hundreds of years just by applying heat. I was fascinated by the power of this material and decided to become a potter. The expression of the simple clay under a craftsman’s hands, like a blank canvas, can transform into a piece that allow you to sense and read the craftsman’s flow of thoughts when he is making it. I hope my work can be something meaningful to someone.

幼少期から木て触れ合うことが多かったのでそれを活用することは当然だった。学生時代に建築のことを学んだのでその経験が今のデザインに生かされている。建築も日本と⻄洋の融合が多くなっているので、器でもそれを表現したかった。蒔地漆は日本の伝統技術の漆塗りの中でマイナーで珍しい技法だったので、他の人との差がつけやすかった。 蒔地漆の表面の独特な質感が新しく感じた。

Since I was a child, I often touched trees, so it was natural for me to want to utilise them. I learnt about architecture when I was a student, so my past experience was put to good use in today's design. There are many fusions of Japanese and Western architectural design, I also want to express the same chemistry with a vessel. Makiji Urushi is a less common and unusual technique in traditional Japanese lacquer, so it was easy to differentiate from other lacquerware makers. The unique feel of Makiji urushi texture is new and refreshing.

Ren さんは常に自然に情熱を注いできました。森、山、動物がどのように共存するか、それが彼の作品の焦点であり、自然に関連しています。彼は、冷たい金属のシートを、暖かく詩的な意図を持って機能的で装飾的なオブジェクトに変えることを楽しんでいます。

Ren has always been passionate about nature, how the forest, mountain, animals all co-exist together to form beautiful rhythm of life, thats the focus of his works, creating something harmonious with nature. He enjoys transforming cold sheets of metal to functional and decorative objects with a warm and poetic intention.
